For beachgoers looking for kinder, gentler waves, refuge can be found along the calm waters of the Chesapeake Bay, just off Shore Drive. From swimming to sand castles to volleyball, all the traditional beach rituals are here. And nothing’s better than an evening stroll or dining at a fine restaurant as the sun sets over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.

First Landing State Park

Along with its historical significance, the park offers opportunities to explore a unique habitat featuring lagoons, large cypress trees and rare plants.

Cape Henry Lighthouse

The original Cape Henry Lighthouse has long been important for the large amount of ocean-going shipping traffic for the harbors, its rivers, and shipping headed to ports on the Chesapeake Bay.

Lynnhaven Inlet

Situated just a few miles from the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, the Lynnhaven Inlet offers anglers the chance to go after a diverse array of fish species.

The Chesapeake Bay area provides a quiet atmosphere with mild waves where you can find tranquility along the beach or enjoy the view from a fine restaurant.

The following information can help you prepare and make the most of your experience at Chesapeake Bay Beach.

To the Chesapeake Bay Beaches from the resort area: Take Atlantic or Pacific Avenue north (toward the higher numbered streets). The two streets will merge near 42nd Street, continue north. Follow the road when it curves to the left near 83rd Street. The road will change names to Shore Drive. The beaches will be on the right side of the road.

There are no lifeguards on duty at the Chesapeake Bay Beaches.

Parking is available at First Landing State Park. The fee for parking is $3 weekdays and $4 weekends.

Public restrooms are available at First Landing State Park.

Fires of any kind are not permitted on the beach. Glass containers and alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the beach. Pets are only permitted on the public beaches after 6:00 p.m. and before 10:00 a.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Airtight containers for cleanup must be carried and used at all times. Pets are welcome on a leash in First Landing State Park.

A beach wheelchair is available at First Landing State Park on a first come, first serve basis. There is no fee for this service.
